Barbara worked as a labor and delivery nurse for many years before becoming a nurse-midwife. Originally from West Virginia, she moved to Florida in 1978 and later went to graduate school at the University of Miami, graduating magna cum laude with a Masters degree in nursing and a clinical specialty of midwifery. While working at The Women's Center of Martin County (a free-standing birthing center) for than 15 years she specialized in low-risk pregnancy, labor and delivery. While many of the women she has helped with childbirth through the years continue to come to her for well-woman gynecology services, she especially enjoys making a young woman or teenager's first visit for a yearly exam a positive one. Barbara is married and has one child.
